Photography of Indian inequality
Anonymous, The Untouchables, 2009. Photographs with text. Delhi, India.
This photo depicts a disabled Dalit man in his home. The man is missing both his legs and requires crutches and prosthetic limbs to remain mobile.
On the right side of the picture is a female wearing bright colours to contrast the dark setting of the man, in front of the the female is text that outline the abrupt and detrimental issues faced by Dalits from "the moment of birth".
This Image shows the reality of the Caste system juxtaposed to bright colour and innocence, yet even with the colourful garments worn by the female, it still invokes emotions of sadness.
This is a real issue faced by millions everyday, with no escape.

Anonymous, Chasing the Dalit vote, 2011. Photograph. Uttar Pradesh, India.
This photo was taken just weeks before a major political vote, that would have resounding effects on the whole community.
It depicts a crowd of lower class citizens rallying in the streets against the discrimination of denying the Dalits to vote in the upcoming election.
This photo shows the growing support of equality in India, as this sort of action would have been unheard of in past years. To speak out like this in the past would have resulted in severe punishments.
With this new found confidence comes progress towards equality.

Anonymous, Emerging from the filth, 2008. Photograph. Goa, India.
In this photo, there is a man emerging from a sewerage drain covered in filth.
For many in India, this is the daily life. The Dalit are are assigned the jobs that no other caste wants to perform because they are unsanitary, dangerous or just difficult.
These are the people who keep the city running, yet for their efforts they are rewarded with no pay, discrimination and abuse.
In the past, very little was done about this abomination of civil rights giving easy to the outcast and rejection of millions.

Political cartoon
A cartoon from The Wall Street Journal, 2012. NYC.
This cartoon depicts a "western" person confused by the customs of Indian castes.
This shows how alien this culture and ideals are to the rest of the world.
